Questions?  We've got answers!

Agent Randy Jones has answered some of our most frequently asked questions regarding individual health plans.

What is the difference between HMO's and PPO's?

  • Well, HMO's usually have a greater benefit, that is, no out of pocket expense, but they are also more restrictive to which doctors you can use.
  • PPO's offer more freedom of choice regarding doctors and your care, but there is no 100% coverage.

Can you keep your current doctor?

  • If you want to keep your current doctor, this could be a big determiner in what program you choose.  Ask your doctor which plans they accept.

Do I have to pay for Prescriptions and Medications?

  • Again, it depends on the plan you choose.  Check with your agent to determine which plan is best for you.

What are HSA's ?

  • An Health Savings Account (HSA) is very similar to an Independent Retirement Account (IRA), except that the money deposited into the HSA is intended for health care expenses.

Who qualifies?

  • Anyone with a qualified, high deductible health plan can qualify to open and contribute to an HSA.

How can this benefit me?

  • Recent HSA legislation created tax benefits that you can take advantage of!  Deposits and earnings into a  qualified, high deductible HSA plan are tax deferred and can be withdrawn tax-free and can be withdrawn tax-free and penalty free to pay for qualified medical expenses.

What happens if I don't use all of the money contributed to the HSA?

  • This is a roll-over account so the unused balance rolls over and accumulates year after year.  If you don't use all the money you have contributed to the HSA,  at the age of 65, you can take penalty-free retirement income withdrawals.
